What We Do

Our continuum of care

UCAN’s primary clients are youth in care of the state child welfare system and youth who have been removed from their homes for reasons of abuse or neglect.  We also work with the families of these children to enhance the full spectrum of support. UCAN provides a continuum of care which enables clients to move from one program to another as their needs change, sparing our youth the transitions and gaps caused by moves from one agency to another.  All of our programs are united by a common clinical philosophy, which ensures that our approach to healing is cohesive and consistent.

Positive youth development

Positive youth development is a framework that guides communities in the way they organize services and support so that young people can develop to their full potential. This practice focuses on youth engagement, community collaboration, defining healthy relationships and infusing a discipline within the culture of our workplace.

Advocacy

UCAN’s External Affairs team aims to ensure that UCAN youth have a voice. Their work entails advocating for legislation which protects and supports our youth, meeting with elected officials and community leaders, working to educate them on key topics and gain support for both social services in general and UCAN in particular, providing forums from which UCAN youth and supporters can interact and learn.
